Mayor Trammskrapper announced that the strategy would not only improve the frequency and number of routes serviced by Gosport Transport but substantially reduce costs by adopting state of the art technology in what was termed a “win for customers and the budget”. These savings will prove vital to Gosport’s besieged bottom line and aid Major Trammskrapper in keeping his election pledge to put Gosport in the black.
Adoption of new state of the art hybrid powered buses will ensure low emissions whilst removing unsightly wires and dangerous tram tracks from the city’s heart. This will ensure that Gosport keeps in step with world leading cities such as London. Tests of the new buses have demonstrated their viability as an enhanced alternative to the outdated tram fleet which has remained idle since late September 2017.
The new fleet of buses will be housed through surplus capacity in existing municipal bus depots freeing up tram depot sites for redevelopment into community facilities and affordable housing capable of revitalising the local economy. Furthermore, proposals have been put forward to convert reserved track sections of the tramway into a combination of housing and community parks.
Subject to approval, transition to buses should take place in the final quarter of 2018.
