Sheffield Goods Yard

With a finished layout, one is rarely looking for new additions. However, the absence of adequate awnings on goods loading platforms across the network is a significant issue.

On a recent trip to our local model store, All Aboard, we walked out the store and sat in the car before deciding that we needed a couple more sheets of plastikard after all and should take advantage of the excellent deal the store was having on old Humbrol paints. Walking back into the second hand room (where the discounted paint was), I stumbled on a pack of second hand awnings which I'd somehow completely overlooked the first time. Even more fortunate, they were only $1 (though the store kindly donated the awnings and paint to me).

The pair of awnings have made a fine addition to the goods yard at Sheffield Victoria. Unfortunately, we don't know their make so it is unlikely that anymore will be acquired.

What's the time?

To prepare for a return to timetabled operation, after initial trials in 2017, the General Manager Safe Working provided a large wall clock that enables all operators to observe "railway time". The first couple of timetabled sessions have proven successful, though minor modifications are likely required so that some trains commence on the running line as opposed to the termini. At present, Banbury control is very quiet for the first few minutes!

Below is a picture of the new clock with the clock tower at Nottingham Victoria in the foreground.
