The opportunity was taken for remedial work with a full emergency possession taken over the weekend. An innovative approach was adopted which involved removing small sections of ballast to expose the underlying beams which were jacked up and packed.
The considerably enhanced scope of work unfortunately led to a time overrun such that normal services were not restored until the early hours of 5th August.
The new siding was commissioned on the evening of 6th August following further delays resulting from repeated specification changes on the part of train controllers. This was ultimately resolved by provision of a new DPDT switch on the Nottingham Panel permitting remote entry to the Down Relief.
